Haphazard Musing

I was just thinking about some of the insightful things I have said over the years, and realized just how few of them I can actually remember. So, I thought it might be a good idea to start writing them down. To start, here's a very small selection of what I can actually remember:

"Friends are worth their weight in friendship; gold means little to me."

"If I were truly smart, I never would have learned so much."

"It is easier to live an authentic life in the face of persecution than it is to live a lie."

"What doesn't kill you, wasn't meant to."

More are sure to follow, as many have already gotten away. Stay tuned.

"What doesn't kill you, wasn't meant to." LOL I love that one!

Bill, can I impose on you one more time with a techie computer question? I hope you don't mind.... it's my blog again, but this time there's just one person still having a problem seeing it. Or rather, that once elusive scroll bar at the bottom still isn't appearing for her.....it's our Kate. Everyone else is good with it now since you gave me the magic html forumla, but for some reason Kate still doesn't get it when she opens my page. She is: Firefox 1.0.7, windows XP, resolution 1024 X 768.

Can you hazard a guess as to what gives? Or suggest another magical spell for her? LOL

Greatly appreciated if you can help, thanks! :)

I bet if she scrolls all the way down to the bottom of the page, she'll see a horizontal scroll bar. I have to look at your stylesheets, but you must have an overflow:scroll rule somewhere (in both your left nav and in the content area), because when I look at your blog in Firefox, I get two sets of scroll bars (in addition to the normal browser scrollbars). Depending on what mode the browser uses to render the page, IE uses a different box model than Firefox, and something in your left nav and in your content are is pushing the content wider than the specified width for the sections in Firefox, causing it to add scroll bars. If I find some time tomorrow (which doesn't look likely at this point) I'll take a peek and see if I can spot anything glaring that might be causing it.

Bill you are a sweetheart, thank you!

Just searched my template and I have these 3 babies in there that mention overflow....I just tried to copy/paste them in this comment box, but it won't accept the html. I'd email it to ya, but I don't have an email addy for you.....

I am LOATHE to change anything that will make me have to start all over again as I did days of work on it, but if there's a simple fix (like last time) that I'm just missing, I'd love to know.

If you change overflow:auto to overflow:hidden and look at it in Firefox, you might see something (text and/or images) getting cut off on the right side of the column - that would give you a clue at least about what is pushing the boundary.

I really love that one Bill.

Podcasts! What is that? How is it done? I've seen a few of them on various blogs and have NO freakin' clue how it's done but I think it's pretty cool.

Yes, the scroll bar is at the VERY bottom of the page, but it makes it darned inconvenient to scroll clear down everytime I want to flip the page.

Jude, if everyone else is using IE and not Mozilla, then for heaven's sakes, don't even think about changing a thing on your blog! That would be silly! I just have loved Mozilla ever since my computer guy recommended it to me; seems to give me fewer problems than IE ever did.

Thank you, Bill, for offering to help her!

Okay now I see where you're at Kate. When I first got this skin going, that was exactly what the problem most of us had was.....there was a scroll bar at the bottom but it wasn't showing up without having to scroll all the way down to get it. That got fixed for the rest of us now though. Crap, I wish it was a better experience for you when you come to visit me Kate, and I hope you'll still come! :-(

I use mozilla/firefox and have no issues viewing your page Jude. I wish I knew more computer stuff so I could help, Kate.

    Tracey,

Do you have trouble viewing my blog with mozilla? Kate did, I was just wondering.

I like this one. Good thoughts Bill. Keep 'em coming.

Nope, no issues Mel. The only thing is the black box doesn't extend down as the page scrolls down, but I can read and see everything just fine.

My tentative start date is Wednesday. Still don't know for *sure* yet, but that would be tomorrow. My wife says she already has a few things lined up for me to do. Not that that is much different that being at home. ;)
